Le Hoyo de Río Seco is presented in slide lid boxes of 10 or 25 and boast an impressive 56 ring gauge which makes them one of the widest to be found in the standard Habanos portfolio.
Le Hoyo de Río Seco is the second vitola to be introduced to the new Le Hoyo Series range which was launched in 2015 with the Le Hoyo de San Juan, a cigar which also carries a heavy ring gauge to reflect the continuing trend towards stout cigars.
The new vitolas joining the Le Hoyo range only use Seco and Ligero leaves in the blend that are grown in San Juan y Martinez, a small town in Vuelta Abajo zone which provides most of the premium tobacco leaves destined to become Habanos. The famous Hoyo de Monterrey plantation is also located here which grows some of the finest leaves for other prestigious Habanos brands.

About Hoyo de Monterrey

Hoyo de Monterrey owes its origin to the town of San Juan y Martinez, which lies at the heart of the Vuelta Abajo tobacco zone. Here, the Hoyo de Monterrey plantation is one of the great Vegas de Primera (First Class Fields). It can be reached through a gate on the town’s main square, inscribed with ‘Hoyo de Monterrey.’ José Gener. 1860’.
‘Hoyo’ literally means a ‘hole’ and in this case describes the low-lying position of the plantation on the fertile banks of the San Juan y Martinez river. José Gener, a Spaniard from Tarragona, first used the name of his vega on a brand of Havanas in 1865.
The flavor of Hoyo de Monterrey’s blend makes it an attractive choice for those who seek a delicate yet aromatic Havana. It is lighter to the taste but with great elegance and complexity.
Furthermore, the brand has earned renown for its Double Corona and the prestigious Epicure series, including the No.1 and No.2. It added the longer Epicure Especial in 2008. Additionally, the brand offers a range of vitolas known as the Le Hoyo Series. It is generally thought to be slightly stronger and spicier than the brand’s classic range.
Finally, all sizes are ‘tripa larga, totalmente a mano’ – long filler, totally handmade using filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo tobacco zone
