About Sutliff Tobacco

The Sutliff Tobacco Company, established in 1849 by H.W. Sutliff in San Francisco, California, initially operated as a retail store selling cigars and pipe tobaccos. In 1933, it transitioned into manufacturing its flagship brand, “Mixture 79,” which gained significant demand throughout the 1930s and 1940s. As consumer preferences evolved, the company adjusted its offerings, introducing highly flavored Cavendish cut blends in response to changing tastes in the 1970s.
