Design Berlin 9mm Filter Pipe Dublin Shape
Design Berlin is a respected German pipe manufacturer with a history dating back to 1948, when Hubert Hartmann established Pfeifenstudio Hartmann in Berlin. Initially producing practical, everyday smoking pipes, the company soon developed a reputation for quality craftsmanship, drawing on the skills of experienced pipe makers from Germany’s traditional Thuringian pipe-making region.
A major influence on the company’s development was pipe maker and designer Lothar Schirwitz, who joined in 1954. His creative input helped shape the brand’s identity, introducing more contemporary designs inspired by the Danish pipe-making movement, alongside improvements in quality and manufacturing techniques. The Design Berlin name was adopted around 1975.
Over the years, the company became known for its carefully crafted briar pipes, 9mm filter systems and diverse collections, combining traditional shapes with more adventurous and individual designs. In 1993, Design Berlin acquired the former HOWAL factory in Schweina, Thuringia, a historic pipe-making site with roots dating back to C.S. Reich in 1887.
Today, Design Berlin pipes represent an appealing blend of traditional German craftsmanship and distinctive European design. From timeless classics to more expressive, freehand-inspired creations, the collection offers something for pipe smokers who appreciate quality, individuality and a rich heritage of pipe making.
